The OU dream team
After throwing our decade-themed bash earlier this month, we decided to give a little insight into what really goes on before, during, and after our Over Under parties. Let us know if you can relate?
If you know about Over Under, you’ll know that we like to have fun. Our team is what makes our business. Happy staff means happy customers and lots of positive impact, so every few months we get the staff together to celebrate their hard work. Not only is it a time for the team to let their hair down, but it’s also great for everyone to meet the staff from the other Over Under stores. We’ll let you into a secret, there’s definitely a bit of ‘healthy competition’ among the teams as to which store is truly ‘the best’. But we’ll let you be the judge of that!
We hosted our decade-themed summer party at our Clapham store before the team spilled out onto the Common to enjoy the rest of the summer sunshine. Here’s a snapshot of what usually goes on before, during, and after an OU staff party.
Before
Outfit choice
Who is wearing what? And how dressed up is ‘dressed up’? Nobody wants to go all out and then find out that they’re the only one!
Music
The music is what makes a party, so getting the playlists together in advance is an important part of the prep, especially for our decade-themed bash!
Who’s working tomorrow?
The one thing about hospitality is that somebody always has to work the next day. Depending on who draws the short straw will dictate on how much ‘fun’ people will have. Nobody wants a 5am wake-up call after a night out do they?
During
Food & Drink
The team likes a drink or two and we always make sure there are plenty of food, and snacks (and pizza) available.
Our cocktail queen Eli shakes up batches of cocktails for the team and serves them in buckets with ladles. That’s how you know she means business!
Prizes
Not a staple for every OU party but if it’s Christmas or there are costumes involved expect a prize of sorts.
This month we gave out first, second and third place prizes for the best dressed. Nothing like a little incentive to spur on participation?
Dancing
No party would be complete without a good old boogie.
The chairs and tables are pushed to the side, and everyone gets their groove on, including Ed! You can make a dance floor anywhere.
After
Cleaning the store
There are pluses and minuses of hosting your own party, but the downside is someone has to clean up afterward and make sure the shop is gleaming for service the next day.
Nothing that a bit of efficient teamwork can’t sort out!
Sore heads
After a staff party, there are always a few sore heads. But like true pros, the team gets on with it and brings their A-game despite how they may feel inside.
Photos
Just like any good night out, we love to reminisce about the memories made, and an OU party is no different.
Not only does the team go through their own photos that are shared in our work group chats, but we also take our own professional photos and videos. There really is no escaping the camera!
So there you have it, a snapshot of what goes on at our OU staff parties… they’re always great fun and we’re now counting down till the next get-together.
